Getting started
What is MixReview?
A review service for mix and mastering engineers. You upload the exact bounce you rendered, send one link, and your client listens to it byte for byte: stereo, Atmos and every version side by side, switched on the same sample.
Does my client need an account?
No. They open the link, sign in with a personal code you hand them, and switch between versions with labelled mix buttons. No password, no install. Reviewers are unlimited and free.
How is this different from Samply or PiBox?
They are collaboration and community platforms: more surface, maybe more to learn, for you and for your client. MixReview is a review and comparison tool. One link, labelled mix buttons, lossless playback, nothing to set up on their side. If you need a shared workspace, take theirs. If you need solo in place comparison, take ours.
Who is it built for?
Anyone who needs a mix signed off by someone else: mix and mastering engineers sending to a client, musicians sending a rough mix and stems to a producer, composers presenting cues. It was built by a working studio engineer, which is why it does one job instead of five.
What does a review actually look like?
You drop your files on the upload area, MixReview reads the filenames and groups them into tracks, and you send one link. Your client opens it, hears the mix, and switches between versions with buttons you labelled. Minutes from bounce to sent, no ZIP, no instructions.
Can I try it before paying?
Yes, two ways. Free is genuinely free: 10 GB, Stereo albums with two mix buttons, unlimited reviewers, no time limit and no card. And every paid plan starts with a 7 day trial. Downgrading later keeps your account and your files.
Audio and formats
Is playback really lossless?
Yes. We never transcode, resample or limit. What you upload is what streams, up to 32 bit / 96 kHz. Switches between mix buttons land on the same sample. Going to or from Apple Spatial JOC restarts that renderer, so expect a short gap there.
Which formats are supported?
WAV up to 32 bit / 96 kHz, plus stereo MP4 (AAC) when you want a smaller file. Nothing is re-encoded: your client hears exactly what you delivered. For immersive you add your rendered Atmos binaural downmix as WAV and Apple Spatial as MP4 JOC. We do not render Atmos for you, and we do not take MP3.
What does loudness matching do?
One click measures the integrated loudness of every version and matches them, so a louder bounce does not read as a better one. Set it for a single mix button, a whole track or the entire album, and overwrite any value by hand.
What is a mix button?
One switchable file inside a track, sitting behind a labelled button in your client's player. Stereo reference, Atmos binaural, Apple Spatial, a vocal up pass, a single stem: whatever you want compared. Free carries two per track, Studio four.
How do I get a Dolby Atmos mix in?
Render the binaural downmix in your Atmos renderer and upload it as a WAV, next to your stereo reference. Your client switches between them with one button. MixReview plays your render. It does not fold down a bed for you, and it never touches the file.
Can my client hear real Apple Spatial, not a downmix?
In the iOS app, yes. An Apple Spatial JOC file plays natively there, the way Apple Music delivers it, with head tracking and the listener's own Personalized Spatial profile. A browser plays the same file as a stereo downmix. For a genuine immersive sign off, send them to the app.
Do I have to sort and label every file myself?
No, the filename does it. `Track_Stereo.wav`, `Track_Binaural.wav` and `Track_Apple.mp4` land on the right buttons, and files sharing a base name are grouped into one track. Common spellings are recognised too. Anything unclear stays unassigned and waits for you. Nothing is guessed silently.
How do I send a revision?
Upload it as a new version of the same track. The link you already sent stays valid, and your client finds the new version next to the old one, so they can check whether the change did what they asked for. No second album, no second link competing in their inbox.
Sharing and access
Who else can hear my client's unreleased mix?
Nobody. Every reviewer gets a personal code tied to one album, not a shared password, and you revoke it in one click. Files are AES-256 encrypted and streamed only. There is no public URL, and no download unless you switch one on for that album.
Can I take access away when the job is done?
Yes, per person and immediately. Each reviewer has their own code, so revoking one leaves everyone else untouched. The link stops working the moment you do it, including for anyone it was forwarded to.
What if my client forwards the link?
The link on its own is useless. Whoever opens it still needs that client's personal code. One code carries up to 10 simultaneous sessions; past that the oldest is signed out. If a code has clearly travelled further than intended, rotate it for that one person.
Can my client download the files?
Only if you say so. By default they stream and nothing else: no download button, no public URL. Switch on downloads for a Stereo album and your client can pick the versions they want and get them as one ZIP. Off again just as fast.
Plans and storage
How is storage counted?
Per gigabyte on your account, never per person. Free includes 10 GB, roughly 144 stereo tracks of four minutes at 24 bit / 48 kHz. Studio raises that to 100 GB for €19 a month, with four mix buttons and immersive albums. You pay for room, never for seats.
What is in each plan?
Free: 10 GB, Stereo albums with two mix buttons, unlimited projects and reviewers. Studio, €19 a month: 100 GB, four mix buttons, Immersive albums with Atmos binaural and Apple Spatial JOC, and versioning. Both carry full resolution WAV. No plan degrades your audio.
What happens to my work if I downgrade?
Nothing is deleted, and nothing goes quiet. Everything you already uploaded stays visible, playable and deletable on any plan. What a smaller plan stops is adding and replacing. Upgrade again and you simply carry on. If you are over the new storage limit, we ask you to free up room first.
How do I cancel, and how do I delete everything?
Two different things, both yours to do. Cancelling drops you to Free and keeps your account and files. Deleting the account removes every project, album, track and file, ends the subscription immediately and cannot be undone. GDPR Art. 17, no recovery, no second copy.
Where it runs
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. MixReview runs in any current desktop or mobile browser, and there is a free iOS app for iPhone and iPad. Your client needs nothing but the link and their code. The browser version installs nothing.
Why would my client use the iOS app?
It is the better room. Apple Spatial JOC plays natively with head tracking and Personalized Spatial Audio, switching is seamless, sync is frame accurate, and audio caches offline. The browser covers stereo and Atmos binaural in full and folds JOC down to stereo. The app is free and still needs no account.
Is there an Android app?
Not yet. Android clients review in the browser, which gives them stereo and Dolby Atmos binaural in full quality. Everything except native Apple Spatial, which is an Apple format on Apple hardware.
